The 2010-2011 ski season at Kimberley is shaping up to be spectacular! During the last few months, the finishing touches have been put on a number of projects at Kimberley Alpine Resort and everything will be ready to go by the time the first snowflake hits the slopes.
North America’s largest gladed ski terrain, including the infamous Black Forest has been enhanced, in the largest glading project in Canada. You will see two new glades, one between Windfall and Tramway and the other between Twist and Geneva. So look for more accessible, skiable terrain in the resort’s gladed areas. More terrain = more fun!

The night skiing pass which made its sparkling debut last season has a new name -– the Nightrider Pass. This was so popular last year that it inspired an evening rail jam series that was a big attraction for youth. It looks like it just may be a permanent fixture, so all you skiers and snowboarders — get ready to enjoy unlimited fun on North America’s longest night skiing trail! This is a great way for families too to spend an evening together in a positive environment.
A great way to introduce a novice skier to the sport is the Newbie Pack. It includes a lift ticket for you and a Telus Learn-To-Ski package for the newbie –- all for only $99!

But the really big news at Kimberley Alpine Resort is that the new 24,000 sq. ft. $6 million Conference and Athletic Training Centre ( http://www.meetkimberley.ca ) at the ski base is scheduled to be completed by the time you step onto the slopes! The largest conference facility in eastern British Columbia, the centre has been designed to exceed BC energy-efficiency standards by more than 30% and is constructed entirely of local BC timber.
The multi-purpose conference and meeting space will accommodate up to 500 people in theatre-style seating or 350 in a banquet setting. There are 4 breakout meeting rooms, office space, and the latest in information and communication technology capabilities ready to serve all your conference and meeting requirements.
Athlete training facilities include an accessible fitness centre, change rooms, wax room and a large pre-function area.
The facility is owned by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies with additional contributions from Columbia Basin Trust, The City of Kimberley and federal and provincial infrastructure grants.

Panorama improves its night sking and it is included in the price of a normal day lift ticket!

Skiers at Panorama Mountain Village this season will be able to ski under the lights 7 evenings a week and on terrain that is three times bigger than last year, starting December 10.
Jeremy Hall, Marketing Manager for Panorama, said this week in a media release, “We are really excited about the new night experience at Panorama this winter. Anyone with a valid pass for the day can keep skiing past 4 pm and into the night on Showoff with access via the Mile 1 High Speed Quad”
The Showoff trail, more than a mile long, rises 1,200 ft. above the village. A gentle, rolling cruiser, great for all abilities and groomed daily, it is marked as a ‘green circle’ run, signifying that it is rated as ‘easier’. With its high-speed lift access, Showoff is perfect for families and is expected to appeal to vacationers at the resort as well as local residents from Invermere, who will be able to come up after school or work to take in the exciting night-time atmosphere.
You can purchase your night skiing lift tickets at Panorama Guest Services in Ski Tip Lodge. Adults are $19, youth and seniors are $16 and juniors are $9. If you already have either a 2010-2011 season pass or have purchased a full day/half day lift pass that is valid for the same day, you can go night skiing from 4 to 9pm without purchasing another lift ticket.

Rocky Mountain Accommodations would like to thank our guests and owners for a great past season and for the activity that is providing another good summer season. Although just the beginning of the summer we are seeing significant increases in occupancy levels for summer again this year.

Our goals have always been to provide the finest, most comfortable and best kept accommodations for the best price. Live Music from truly Great Local Talent every Thursday and Saturday throughout July and August from 7pm - 9pm on Main Street West in the village of Radium Hot Springs.

The Kimberley Underground Mining Railway is definitely worth seeing and adding to your to-do list.  The whole experience is fascinating from the very young to the very old!  I took my family out to check it out and all of us really enjoyed the real experience that was relayed from all of the staff.  The demonstration in the mine was an eyeopener for sure!

Open everyday until Labor Day.  Three rides a day, under 4yrs Free, Under 12yrs $7 and remainder $10.  This is outstanding value for an experience that lasts 2 hrs.  Highly recommended.

The Autumn Columbia Valley's Show & Shine is always the 3rd Saturday in September; this year it falls on September 18th.  It is again being hosted at the Driving Range of the Springs Golf Course.  It really is an awesome event whether you are a car enthusiast or not.  The spectacle of so many old and new classics all immaculately turned out makes for a great weekend out for the whole family.

On Friday night there is live music by the Surf Dragons at the Ball Park along with a Beer Garden hosted by the Rotary.

The new booking software had some issues with regards to calculating owner statements with all the intricacies of various taxes, commisions and pooling.  Despite the time lapse we have been working hard with the technical support at RMS to customize the software to fit the way in which we want to opperate.  The interim work-arounds were slow and have been untimely.

RMS has promised to have all of this ironed out for this month's Owner Statement run.  Thank you to all owner's for you patience.  We now have a good working system with room for expansion.

Owners and Guests now have Wireless High Speed Internet at Timber Stone, Kimberley.

Shaw Cable installed High Speed Modems in every rental unit last month and Rocky Mountain Accommodations has installed and configured Wireless Routers in each unit for the benefit of all owners and guests.

This upgrade will enhance the facilities we can offer potential guests who often come to mix business with pleasure and ask for internet as a neccessity.  Each unit has it's own secure internet so no sharing band-width and also enabling peace of mind when online banking or shopping on the net.

We moved our Check-In to Kimberley Adventure Centre which seems to be working really well.

Just before Christmas we approached Kimberly Rafting and Fly Shop about a possible partnership so that we could use their shop as a Check-In and they could benefit from our guests coming into the shop and seeing what they had to offer. They were in the midst of launching a new winter range of activities and renaming themselves as The Kimberley Adventure Centre. This has worked out great for us, with our guests conveniently stopping in at their shop on the way to the Alpine Resort and getting to browse some pretty unique winter activities. They are a One-Stop shop for Snowmobiling, Dogsledding, Backcountry Skiing, Heli Skiing, Avalanche Courses and much more.

Since the Summer we have been working hard on improving our websites and at last have crowned our bright new Kimberley and Radium sites with our Corporate Tier. The 2 specific location sites were working very well for us, enabling us do do our business and now we have the last ink in the chain which will help point potential guests in the right direction, enable owners to be kept up to date and give possible new buyers information required on renting their units.

At last we have our new booking software up and functioning. Dog Sled Racing is back at Bootleg Gap this year.

This race features 6-dog 6-mile Open and Purebred classes, 4-dog 4-mile Open and Purebred classes, 2-dog 4-mile Skijoring and a 2-dog 2-mile Junior class. Unlike other sled dog races, the Bootleg Sled Dog Races have a cause. Treatment facilities for victims of cancer and other illness in the Kootenay Rockies region are non-existent and patients inflicted with cancer and other illness must travel to Vancouver or Calgary for treatment. The East Kootenay Friends of Children Fund assists the families of patients with the financial burden of this travel. However, there is never enough to appreciably offset these costs. As sled dog enthusiasts we can help. All proceeds of the Bootleg Sled Dog Races will be donated to assist those fighting this battle. Calgary was a little slower than past years but Edmonton was busy and the interest in our beautiful products was still high.

This year we went high-tech in our booth and had our new websites live on a big screen which seemed to capture peoples imagination and really was a great way to show off our stunning inventory.

We ran a Prize Draw at each of the shows for a 2 Bedroom Condo, Ski-In/Ski-Out with Private Hot Tub. This was also high-tech and eco-Friendly this year with direct entry into our database laptop; this was a hit with all but a very few technophobes!

The 2 lucky prize winners were Darcy Duek from Edmonton and Nate Robinson from Calgary.

Rocky Mountain Accommodations have been very fortunate this summer to have been given an opportunity to take over Radium Vacation Rentals and start doing business in this stunning part of the Columbia Valley.

With approximately 35 units in and around Radium and Invermere we are now set to mirror our Kimberley operation with sound marketing, good value for money and most of all the very best customer service we can provide in order to build this new part of the business. We are all excited to be working further up the valley with some great skiing and golfing opportunities, not to mention all of the Hot Springs in the area. Michelle Crampton runs our Radium office who stayed on from Radium Vacation Rentals and who is a great asset to us for continuity and her great enthusiasm to take this venture forward and to make it sucessful!
